The Netherlands is connected to this horrific history. After almost 30 years and promises made, there is an urgent need for a public memorial.

PRESS RELEASE - Wreath laid at spot for missing National Memorial for victims of Srebrenica Genocide
The Hague, 11-07-2024 - A wreath was laid today in front of the former Yugoslavia Tribunal on Churchillplein by board members of the Srebrenica Genocide '95 National Monument Foundation. A symbolic act for a memorial, in memory of the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica, that is still missing. Nearly three decades after this tragic event, there is still no tangible tribute in the Netherlands to remember the 8,372 Bosniak men and boys who were murdered on July 11, 1995.

We stand here not only to unveil a physical structure, but also to create a lasting memory of one of the darkest chapters of recent history.

The Hague, 11-07-2024 Ladies and Gentlemen, Dearly beloved, We stand here today at the ICTY to lay a symbolic wreath in memory of the victims of the genocide at Srebrenica. This gesture is a mark of respect and mourning for the 8372 Bosniak men and boys who were murdered in July 1995. It is a painful fact that a national monument has still not been established in The Hague, the international city of peace and justice, to commemorate this terrible event.

Bećirović emphasized that Sarajevo and The Hague are cities whose mention carries great symbolism.
